Filthy bass, war dance drums & sleazy guitar licks set up the start to 'The Great God Proteus' perfectly. We're going to some place truly evil. We are going south of Heaven. Or Govan, to Ibrox probably. This sexy two track EP that came with an actual patch I'm going to sew onto my street gang black denim jaiket.
When the guitars go into a sinister drone chug you realise then that HK are going into full baws out, suck ma plums mode. Crunchy, distorted, big muff fuzzed-oot menacing doom. Wit the fuck the singer's saying/singing I dunno. The track reverts to an excellent slow shagging drum march to give Screamy McScreamyson (Derek the singer) a break. I like this structure. It's sexy.
'Army of Serpentine' hits us right away with murky downtuned combo riffs that seem to get lower with each chug. Down, dooon and downnnnnn.... It's got a kinda evil as fuck vibe this. I remember reading about a certain scale being outlawed by the Vatican because it was scaring people in the medieval days. This must of been how it sounded, but with lutes or some shit. Again, the singer's hitting us with patter that sounds like "YER MAWS" and later "BAWS", but I'm sure its not that. Three minutes in you get your back door smashed in with the band going into a faster mode. All in all this is a grande shite. Clear cut shagging music. For a two track EP this motherfucker has enough to keep the most hardened doomite fud entertained.
Headless Kross are still a band in their infancy and its great to hear this from them. Tommy the guitarist ups his game on this release and Jonny the drummer hammers out a framework that allows Derek Screamerson to supply a combo of brutal bass and chainsaw vox. If you get the chance go see them live, that's where the magic happens. In the near future, they have a split being released on Head of Crom records with Lazarus Blackstar (I think), I'm gonna wank so much over that record I'm going to jizz blood.
