Ex Libras – Teenage Eyes
Single
Ex Libras / Teenage Eyes
Release Date: 28/02/2011

Ex Libras arrived in my life amidst a flurry of other relatively new bands that I had never heard before, and they immediately stood out head and shoulders above everything else.  The single Teenage Eyes which is to be released from the EP Cut(s) is an intriguing mix of sounds and styles which when put together instantly charmed me.  [Because I listen to a lot of new stuff on a regular basis it is always a bit of a relief when I actually really like something.]  The sound is moody, loopy, almost glitchy drumbeats, with a classical style arrangement of piano, guitar and strings; underpinned by a fantastic bass sound playing a sort of jazzy progression; layered over with vocals reminiscent of Thom Yorke but without quite so much insufferable pain.  They describe it as “loopcoustica”.  It is a listening treat.  Upon seeing the video, I was even more spurred on to write about them.  Maybe it’s because everyone is raving on about this new ballet horror film that is out [which I won’t be seeing because I scare easily] but something about the artistry with which this beautiful video has been put together struck an additional chord, and for me, transported the song to a new level.  This is a really talented and interesting band and I strongly recommend you check them out.
