The Cosmic Dead

The Exalted King

Recently available on their last tour, this tape-only release contains three songs and lasts seventy minutes. Listening to opener 'The Exalted King' feels like a lift-off. Freeform in its sound, the drums carry drones, guitar effects and the listener on and on into a sheer climb. At thirty minutes long, it does feel like an endurance test but if you manage to survive the take-off ,the real deal emerges in the form of track two 'Anatta'.

Slower, moodier and sexier this codeine-fuelled track possesses a hypnotic drum pattern and a hipster's backpack full of Jack Kirby psychedelic space sounds to make it the journey's lasting highlight. Past the halfway mark, the track opens up, everything changes and becomes a kaleidoscopic version of the previous half of the song; folding in on itself and changing to become a loud and angry drone poem.

Final track and final trip 'Anaphora' finds our travels at an end. Near five minutes of space echo and delayed mutterings cut into a low end groove to carry us across the wounded galaxies. After twenty minutes of lysergic acid diethylamidian monstrous waves of sonic colour, we're landed home, inside a black hole of fuck.
