Audiocæneat - Red Sessions
Album
Audiocæneat / Red Sessions
Release Date: 10/11/2010

Audiocæneat are a seemingly no-nonsense kind of band, pounding out heavy, electronics-infused post-rock and often sounding like a heavy-handed Sigur Ros or even Caspian at times. This, my friends, is German post-rock at its finest.

This album feels rather fluid, with soft guitar riffs that fuse with the gentle vocals, making you feel like you've reached the end of the world, just wandering through ruins. It opens with 'From the Massives to the Masses', which for me is very much like Immanu El's – 'Under your wings I'll hide', but significantly more pronounced and just that bit more pounding. It leads into an all-out “Run for your life!” sound, which confirms my thoughts on this being my post-apocalyptic soundtrack.

Other songs on the album lean a lot more heavily towards Sigur Ros, especially with the Jonsi-style vocals. They make it gloriously majestic in a sense: they all feel gentle but at the same time quite primal and raw in terms of effects and the sheer volume of the instruments being played.

The best song here is 'Kalypso'. This 8 and-a-half minute-long adventure through sound keeps the same vibe felt throughout the album, but with particularly deft vocals, seemingly blending into the music and making it a very integral song. At times 'Red Sessions' reminds me of Hammock's album 'Raising your Voice....Trying to Stop An Echo'. Whilst this is not a bad thing, some of the songs can seem a little repetitive, though still worth the listen.

Fans of Immanu El, Caspian, Jesu and dare I say even some of Kasper Rosa's work will enjoy this album as much as I have.
