All kinds of opinions thrown at the new Dark Dark Horse video for Midnight Mass done in an acoustic styley.
Chris Washington-Sare - Ex-member of Kyte and Maybeshewill forgoes the noise of the latter for an acoustic meander reminiscent of the former. Easy on the ear with some subtle electronic noodling buried deep in the mix. Nice. 4 Beards.
Darren Bibby - I'd like this if I'd had a terrible day and wanted to wallow a bit with 6 cans. Other times I'd find it a bit wet, but it's got a very pretty spaced-out atmosphere that keeps it from being sickly. Could imagine Elbow covering this. 3.5 Beards
Sam Green - I really like these guys and everything they create under whatever moniker. Good solid song, flows really well in a sombre kinda way. No massive crescendo which is nice, its probably the faces in the video that trick my mind into thinking that one is coming. Nicely shot simple videos always give me a bit of a muso-boner. 4.5 Beards.
Lizzie Banoffee - It's a bit dull and maudlin, but it is quite short so that is something in its favour. It's not bad though, just not very interesting. I could go as far as 3 Beards.
Oliver Perrott-Webb - Love the momentum the doubled riff on the acoustics, the vocals and the bass provide. I found the crescendo at the end unnecessary as it's got enough "oomph" as it is. Just felt like an excuse to throw in a crescendo. The synth/effects coming from the Kaoss Pad addition brings it into post-folk (?) territory for me. Solid, but not immune to a few cliches that it very easily could've done without. Lose them and it does much better. 3.5 Beards.
