BOTW - Dios Trio

It must be hard being a new band at the moment, where seemingly it's more about how much money you can spend on your PR campaign as opposed to what your music actually sounds like. A shite state of affairs, but that seems to be the nature of the industry beast. Luckily, I get pissed off with the amount of stale, force-fed bullshit that comes through to my email and sometimes I like to ignore the familiar in favour of some of the more leftfield submissions we receive on a daily basis.

That’s when I discovered Dios trio. Last year, Three Trapped Tigers raised the bar so high with Route One or Die that it kind of overshadowed the rest of the math-rock releases and made them sound a little bit lacklustre in comparison. However, we have once again witnessed a digit change, and whilst TTT are out touring and reaping the benefits of their critically-acclaimed album it gives a few of the underdogs time to nestle their way into our musical bosoms. This week's Band of the Week are one such band, and they should be getting way more recognition than they have received so far.

Westborough's Dios Trio play the kind of quadratic, fret-shredding rock that has the ability to align your concentration levels to a dot-staring mong out; the kind where the only thing that works on your body are your ears. I swear I must have been staring at this flashing cursor bar for the last 20 minutes. That’s got to mean something. High on Bikes is packed with an arsenal of high-end delights with a strong Japanese influence comparable to the likes of Mudy on the Sakuban and Toe. Recorded, mixed and mastered by the band themselves without any outside input sure as hell worked: the sound quality is a cracking example of skilled production.

I want to own it on vinyl, but they haven’t made them yet, so come on Dios Trio, get on with it! Until then, they are giving the album away for free. Absolute madness I tell you. If you do one thing today outside of your usual routine let it be that you download this album, listen to it and mong out.
